The holiday season is officially here and Des Moines is full of sensory-friendly events for your kiddo! These events provide an inclusive environment where your child can feel the holiday spirit with sensory adaptions. From a special showing of "Frozen" to skating opportunities, these gatherings ensure that your family can celebrate the holidays comfortably!
1. Sensory Friendly Showing of Frozen
Where: The Varsity Cinema (1207 25th Street, Des Moines)
When: Saturday, January 25th at 10:00am

Take your little one to see Disney’s Frozen in an adapted theater environment. This event is free thanks to the support of BWA. Each attendee will receive a small popcorn and medium drink.
2. Lights at the Museum: Sensory Sensitive Playdate
Where: Des Moines Children’s Museum (1551 Valley W Drive, Suite 108, West Des Moines)
When: December 20th from 5:00pm to 6:00pm

Enjoy a play day under the lights at this annual holiday event designed for children with sensory challenges! All regular exhibits will be open during the event. Sensory bins and communication boards will be available for families.
3. Adapted Skate
Where: Brenton Skating Plaza in Des Moines
When: December 21st from 9:30am to -11:30am & January 4th 9:30am – 11:30am

Adaptive Skating invites individuals with physical or developmental abilities to skate! For just $5 individuals can enjoy the ice without a large crowd.
4. Sensory Skate

A time for individuals with sensory processing challenges to ice skate without the large crowds. For just $5 (admission and skate rental/sled rental) this session is designed to engage individuals in the sport for recreation activity and enjoyment.
