Center-Based Therapy Services

ABA therapy services can be provided in a number of different care settings including at a client’s home, through a client’s school, or at a dedicated Autism center. Therapy services provided in an Autism center may be referred to as “center-based services”, “clinic-based services” or “in-clinic services”.

Families receiving center-based ABA therapy services at Midwest transport their child to one of our offices each day to receive care. Most clients at our centers are enrolled “full-time” meaning they receive 30-40 hours of therapy each week and spend full days at the center with their care team. Each child’s care team includes at least two Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) providing 1:1 therapy and a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) who oversees therapy services, provides parent training, and develops individualized treatment plans.

In some cases, children who have already mastered basic developmental skills and/or are enrolled in a preschool program may receive “part-time” therapy hours (20-30 hours/week) to supplement their learning. Kids enrolled part-time at Midwest are typically between the ages of 4-5 with foundational skills like potty training, feeding, and basic communication already established.

During the enrollment process, our clinicians will conduct an intake assessment and provide a recommended number of therapy hours.

Benefits of Center-Based Therapy

As a parent or caregiver, it’s important to decide which care setting is best suited to your child’s needs. To help you understand if center-based Autism therapy is the right fit, check out a few of the main benefits below:

  1. Number of Therapy Hours: Most children enrolled at a Midwest center receive 30+ hours of therapy each week, whereas children receiving home-based care average between 10-20 hours per week. This is because our centers are focused on early intervention programming for children under age 5. By contrast, most clients receiving home-based services are enrolled in school or daycare full-time and receive therapy after hours.
  2. Consistency & Predictability: Changes in routine are a common challenge for children with Autism. A center-based program offers a structured, consistent learning environment so your child can focus on skill building.
  3. Ability to Practice School & Social Skills: Midwest centers enroll between 20-30 children per office. This gives us the ability to help your child practice important social skills like teamwork and turn-taking. Many of our centers also group students to practice classroom skills like circle time, lunch, or creative activities.

Program Eligibility

Center-based therapy services are available for children up to age 5 with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Because hours for our Center programs conflict with a typical school schedule, children enrolled in school full-time may not be eligible to enroll in our center-based therapy programs. To meet the needs of families with children in school, we offer home-based services as an alternative.
